LT Tony Boselli (1995-01)

It is only fitting that the first player ever drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars finds his way onto the franchise’s Mount Rushmore. Left tackle Tony Boselli, the second overall pick in the 1995 draft, was elite for his relatively brief tenure in Jacksonville.

The Jaguars took Boselli with an eye on him becoming the team’s left tackle for a long time, and he immediately entered the conversation as one of the best at his position. Boselli made the Pro Bowl every year from 1996-00 and was a First-Team All-Pro player from 1997-99.

In a sign of how elite he was, Boselli also was named to the NFL’s All-Decade Team for the 1990s, a remarkable accomplishment considering some of the great tackles to play in that era. Boselli’s Jaguars career came to an end after the 2001 season when salary cap concerns caused Jacksonville to leave him unprotected for the expansion draft, when he was taken by the Houston Texans.

Injuries brought an early end to Boselli’s career after just one season in Houston, but he is still beloved in Jacksonville, which made him the first member of the Pride of the Jaguars. Boselli’s No. 71 hasn’t been issued 2002, which is likely a sign the organization intends to retire it if he eventually gets elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The Jaguars’ Mount Rushmore wouldn’t be complete without their greatest player, so Boselli’s inclusion here is a no-brainer.
