These 5 NFL teams had the best offseasons in 2020
Cleveland Browns
After a disappointing season that saw the Browns struggle to live up to the hype created in the 2019 offseason, changes were prominent heading into the 2020 offseason. Freddie Kitchens was relieved of his duties and Kevin Stefanski was brought in to steady the ship, while general manager John Dorsey parted ways with the team and was replaced by Andrew Berry.
Crushing the offseason was the first big test for the Browns. They did it. Strengthening a porous offensive line was the top objective for Berry in 2020, so the Browns went out and got the best offensive lineman in free agency, paying Jack Conklin $42 million over the next three years and taking Jedrick Wills Jr. with the No. 10 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.
Now, the Browns could have one of the best offensive lines in the league if the pieces fall into place. Though, like the Bills, their hopes rest on the development of their young franchise quarterback. Baker Mayfield noticeably regressed in 2019, but with more protection and a better offensive scheme, he’s in a position to succeed in 2020 – or at least to take a step forward.
The defense will likely improve too. The Browns snagged Grant Delpit and Jordan Elliott in the 2020 Draft while picking up former Raiders safety Karl Joseph and Bengals defensive tackle Andrew Billings. They will also have Myles Garrett back for the entirety of the 2020 season.
Rumors still persist around Odell Beckham‘s future in Cleveland, but if the Browns keep ahold of the star receiver, he’ll fit in nicely with new tight end Austin Hooper, Nick Chubb and Jarvis Landry in an all guns blazing offense.
As offseasons go, the Browns had one of the best in the NFL.
