3. Rasheed Wallace

Wallace retired after playing the 2010 season for the Boston Celtics at age 35. In the fall of 2012, the Knicks brought Wallace out of retirement to play with Carmelo Anthony, Amare Stoudemire, Jason Kidd, J.R. Smith and more.

The Knicks didn’t ask much of Wallace as their back up center. Wallace played just 21 games for the 2013 Knicks and averaged seven points and four rebounds per game in 14 minutes per game. For a 54-win team, Wallace’s contributions were fine considering he was retired for the two previous seasons and now 38 years old.

Unfortunately for Wallace, the Knicks waived him before the playoffs in April 2013. Without Wallace, New York dispatched Boston in six games, effectively ending the Big Three era, before losing the Eastern Conference semifinals to Indiana in six games. There wasn’t much Wallace could have done about that Pacers team at this stage in his career anyway.

Most NBA fans will remember Wallace’s career taking off with Portland in the late 90s and early 00s before winning a title with Detroit in 2004. However, his brief stint in New York is at least interesting although it isn’t the jersey people remember seeing him in.
