Justin Britt, Center

The Seattle Seahawks wasted no time after the draft creating mass exodus from their veteran offensive line, cutting D.J. Fluker and Justin Britt on the Monday immediately following its conclusion. Fluker has since signed with the Baltimore Ravens, but Britt remains an attractive free agent that Kansas City could pursue.

Britt would provide an immediate and significant upgrade over Chiefs starting center Austin Reiter, provided his knee checks out okay after the ACL tear. Prior to the 2019 injury, Britt had started 78 out of 80 games for Seattle since they drafted him in the second round of the 2014 draft.

He is a Pro Bowl-caliber center who would anchor the front. The Chiefs were said to be in on free-agent guard Andrus Peat in February before he re-signed in New Orleans, proving they’re willing and able to spend on an upgrade here.

Reiter is mediocre on his best days and a liability on his worst. What’s more, the Chiefs could save $3 million against the 2020 cap by releasing Reiter, which would nearly cover the cost of signing Britt to a one-year deal.

The Chiefs have a reasonably good offensive line absent the position, but a big upgrade in the center could prove to be a game-changer for the Chiefs’ MVP quarterback Patrick Mahomes and first-round pick, running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire.
