5 NFL coaches who could be fired during the 2020 season
4. Matt Nagy (Chicago Bears)
The heat has certainly ratcheted up under Matt Nagy’s seat of late. Just two years ago Nagy was being hailed as an innovator after guiding the Chicago Bears to a 12-4 record and an NFC North crown.
2019 was a major step back for the Bears, who missed the playoffs and saw young quarterback Mitchell Trubisky regress. Trubisky, who the organization traded up to pick instead of waiting to select either Deshaun Watson or Patrick Mahomes, is now fighting for his job against new acquisition Nick Foles.
There is a ton of pressure on Nagy to fix Trubisky and get the Bears back to contending status with a strong defense right now. The schedule is also manageable for Chicago early, offering up a string of teams they could beat in order to get off to a fast start.
If the Bears are below .500 by the time they get to Week 8 there will be plenty of calls for Nagy’s job in Chicago. Nagy’s job security isn’t as bad as some of the others on this list, but it could become more perilous very quickly.
