4. Going All-In On “All Day”

The Chiefs have the league’s most high-flying offense, with an array of weapons that was supplemented by the drafting of running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire. But the running game notably lacked spark last year.

Kansas City finished 23rd in the league in rushing last year (98.1 yards per game), with a bottom half of the league finish in yards per carry (4.2; 20th). Damien Williams led the team in rushing with 498 yards (4.5 yards per carry), and he’s a perfectly average running back. A better back might unlock another element of an already great offense.

Adrian Peterson has remained an effective running back well into his 30’s, as he averaged 4.3 yards per carry last year. The Redskins picked up his option for this year, and he’s due a reasonable base salary of $2.25 million.

As Washington goes into a new era under head coach Ron Rivera, Peterson will take a back seat of Derrius Guice can stay healthy this year and versatile rookie Antonio Gibson is in line for a solid role. Peterson does not have a place in the long-term plan. In Kansas City, Peterson would be a solid piece as he should prefer to be on a contending team.
