2. A Fournette Fortification

There is no denying Fournette is coming off the best season of his career (1,152 rushing yards, 76 catches for 522 yards), even if his numbers were driven by volume (265 carries and 100 targets). He surely won’t get that kind of touch volume (particularly in the passing game) anywhere outside Jacksonville, but he can still help another team.

And the Jaguars would surely like to trade him after not picking up his fifth-year option for 2021, despite saying they now intend to keep him.

Fournette had notable struggles in the scoring area last year, as he scored just three touchdowns on 46 red zone carries. In his first two seasons he scored on at least 22 percent of his red zone carries, so a positive correction is coming. In more direct relation to the Chiefs, Damien Williams found pay dirt on just three of his 16 red zone carries last year (18.8 percent).

The Chiefs obviously don’t need a star running back. But as low a bar as that is to cross, Fournette is a better player than Williams would would surely help an already prolific offense grind out yards in the scoring area better.

Fournette is due to make $4.16 million this year, with no commitment to him beyond that.

Here’s how Fournette could get to Kansas City.
