Denver Broncos: 5 free agents to sign in order to win in 2020

When it was all said and done, there were a lot of positives when it came to head coach Vic Fangio’s pride and joy. Denver’s defense wound up ranked 12th in the league in total yards per game allowed. The club finished with 40 sacks and only 17 takeaways after a sluggish start. Coordinator Ed Donatell’s group surrendered only 28 offensive touchdowns in 16 contests and the Broncos surrendered less than 20 points per game.
But one of the issues this unit had with stopping opponents on the ground, at least on a consistent basis. Denver allowed 111.4 yards per game on the ground. And the team limited 10 of its 16 opponents below the century mark on the ground. But there were also outings in which the team was pushed around by opposing running games, most notably in losses to the Bears (153), Jaguars (269) and Bills (244).
Adding a little depth at inside linebacker to compliment Todd Davis and A.J. Johnson. The former led the team with 134 stops while Johnson was tied for second on the club with safety Justin Simmons with 93 tackles. Veteran Alec Ogletree remains on the open market and the 28-year-old performer – who had a nose for the football – could help Donatell’s unit in various ways.
