Patrick Mahomes recruiting Georgetown transfer Mac McClung to Texas Tech on Twitter
Patrick Mahomes is the secret recruiting ace for Texas Tech basketball.
Georgetown transfer Mac McClung is the hottest transfer player in the transfer portal. He’s cut down his list of finalists to seven with Texas Tech, Auburn, BYU, Memphis, USC, Arkansas and Wake Forest. If Texas Tech is successful in convincing McClung to head to Lubbock, Red Raiders fans can thank Patrick Mahomes for that.
The former Texas Tech quarterback and current Kansas City Chiefs quarterback and reigning Super Bowl MVP saw McClung tweet his seven suitors and had to weigh in with his pitch.
Mahomes tweeted McClung and told him to make a run for a national title at Texas Tech.
During Texas Tech’s magical Final Four run and appearance in the National Championship Game two seasons ago, Mahomes was the biggest superfan in the stands. Mahomes was a big-time cheerleader, often mimicking his bow and arrow celebration and was among the most vocal and passionate fans during their run.
Just because you leave Texas Tech doesn’t mean your heart leaves Lubbock. It’s cool to see Mahomes have such a passion for his alma mater. Whether his influence will ultimately sway McClung to Texas Tech remains to be seen.
In all truth, McClung is not going to have his decision come down to which famous alum makes the most convincing sales pitch via Twitter.
So before any Auburn, BYU, Memphis, USC, Arkansas or Wake Forest fans get all upset about tampering or trying to get Texas Tech in trouble with the NCAA for recruiting violations, just chill. Although it makes for a fun exercise to see which famous alums would make the best Twitter salesmen to influence recruits. Scratch that, it would be a disaster of epic proportions.
McClung averaged 15.7 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game for the Hoyas this past season.
He’ll have two years of eligibility remaining wherever he transfers.
