Cleveland Browns Mount Rushmore: RB Jim Brown

He would likely be one of the choices in the NFL’s Mount Rushmore. The Cleveland Browns used the sixth overall pick in the 1957 NFL draft to secure the services of Syracuse running back Jim Brown. To this day, he’s the preferred choice in many people’s eyes when it comes to the greatest running back in league annals.

Nine seasons and the total of 118 regular season games added up to 12,312 rushing yards, a total of 14,811 yards from scrimmage and a combined 126 touchdowns. He averaged 104.3 yards per game on the ground and more than one end zone visit per contest.

Brown was a Pro Bowler in each of his nine NFL campaigns, was named All-Pro eight times and was the NFL’s Most Valuable Player in his first two years in the league and his final season in 1965. And he was part of the club’s last league championship campaign in 1964.

Keep in mind that this is a franchise that has quite a few Hall of Fame running backs in massive Marion Motley, versatile Bobby Mitchell and steady Leroy Kelly. But Brown remain the standard by many who have studied this game and watched him punish opposing defenses for nine seasons.
