Atlanta Falcons – Talent on the defensive line

Grady Jarrett is a Pro Bowl-caliber defensive tackle. Dante Fowler Jr. has the potential to be a Pro Bowl edge rusher. Unfortunately, the talent beyond them is seriously lacking for the Falcons.

Takk McKinley is accurataly labeled as a draft bust. Allen Bailey is a below-average starter at this point in his career. Marlon Davidson is a rookie who will be counted on to play a ton of snaps. The Falcons defense could easily be undone by their lack of a proven pass rush up front.

Carolina Panthers – Lack of talent at cornerback

The Panthers let James Bradberry walk in free agency because of his price tag. That puts a ton of pressure on Donte Jackson to develop into a No. 1 cornerback.

The options on the other side of the field in Carolina are even worse. Corn Elder has a great name but will be hard pressed to hold up as an average starter. Fourth-round rookie Tony Pride may end up taking his spot. Clearly, the secondary is a major concern for Carolina in 2020.

New Orleans Saints – Alvin Kamara’s contract status

Kamara is entering the last year of his deal with the Saints and he wants big money to stay in New Orleans. He’ll likely look at Christian McCaffrey’s deal with the Panthers as a blueprint for what he’ll want in free agency.

The Saints haven’t shown any willingness to make that kind of offer as of yet. If they don’t, it’s easy to see why Kamara could grow disgruntled during the season. That kind of unrest could rob Drew Brees of one of his last chances to win another Super Bowl.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Lack of a starting running back

The Buccaneers are going to throw the ball a ton in 2020, but they still need to run the ball effectively to lessen the load on Tom Brady. That means either Ronald Jones or Ke’Shawn Vaughn needs to grow into an above-average starter.

Jones has shown flashes of real quality but still hasn’t managed to earn the coaching staff’s trust. Vaughn lacks the dynamic speed required to blossom into an NFL star. The Buccaneers may be looking for a free agent boost at running back before the playoffs arrive.
