Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez vs. Gennadiy ‘GGG’ Golovkin III

Arguably the biggest fight to make in terms of mainstream appeal, Canelo and GGG are both household names in the world of sports.

Each of their first two fights were pleasures to watch, and despite what their official records may say, most observers feel the record is at least one win apiece, so a third fight would put a definitive end to the rivalry.

DAZN has made no secrets of their desires to make the rubber match. They signed both fighters to lucrative contracts with the intentions of the two men fighting again. Each of their first fights did well financially, and the streaming service would likely see a nice boost in subscriptions when the fight happens.

It seems that the fight is inevitable, as The Athletic reported that both sides have agreed to making the rubber match. According to the report, both fighters would be willing to bypass fights they had planned for the summer and jump straight into the trilogy in the fall if they had to.

While some diehard boxing fans may rather see these two face other opponents (sign me up for GGG-Jermall Charlo), the sport needs a mainstream event to close out 2020.

Canelo is the cash cow of the sport, and GGG is one of the more popular fighters in the world. Their first two fights both garnered mainstream appeal, did well in terms of PPV buys and were very fun to watch.

There are not many, if any, fights that have the combination of in-the-ring skill, excitement and media buzz as Canelo-GGG III, and that is why the fight could help end 2020 on a high note.

The sport is better off when more eyes are on it, and this is still one of the biggest fights to make in boxing.
