5 players who Seahawks need to be great in 2020
4. Greg Olsen
The Panthers let Greg Olsen go due to concerns about his ability to stay on the field. The Seahawks are betting that he can revive his health in the Pacific Northwest. It’s a big risk for Seattle to take, but it could pay off huge if Olsen can put his injuries behind him.
At his best, he’s still one of the best receiving tight ends in the game. He’s not going to make a ton of impact as an in-line blocker, but he’s at least a willing participant in the ground game.
The Seahawks have signed him to give Wilson a safety blanket. Olsen doesn’t have the speed to burn defenses over the top any longer, but he can make a lot of plays on short and intermediate routes. That’s where Seattle needs to improve its passing game.
Expecting Olsen to play a full 16-game slate with no missed time is unreasonable. Instead, Seattle should do everything in its power to make sure he’s healthy when the playoffs roll around. He’s just the sort of veteran that can win the Seahawks a crucial game in the postseason if they play things right.
