Dodgers disappointment No. 8: 2009 season

Record: 95-67

Playoff Result:

Won NLDS 3-0

Lost NLCS 4-1

The 2009 Dodgers saw the team defend their National League West title while earning the best record in the National League. Los Angeles swept the Cardinals in the NLDS, reaching the NLCS for a second consecutive time.

In a rematch of the 2008 NLCS, the Dodgers were once again a no match for the Philadelphia Phillies. The Phillies repeat run to the World Series was led by Ryan Howard, the eventual NLCS MVP who played a vital role in the Series.

There was briefly some hope for Los Angeles to keep their season alive. However, in a crucial moment, the Dodgers failed to even the series 2-2 in Game 4. With the Dodgers up 4-3 in the bottom of the ninth, Jimmy Rollins went up to the plate. With Matt Stairs and Carols Ruiz on base, Rollins would take a pitch to the gap in right-center, scoring both runners for the walk-off win. The Phillies took Game 5 and marched on.
