It seemed as if everything was going right for the Dodgers in 2017. They easily won their fifth straight National League West division title and swept the Arizona Diamondbacks in the NLDS. They defeated the Chicago Cubs in five games to advance to their first World Series since 1988.
The Series got off to a good start for the Dodgers, thanks to Justin Turner’s two-run home run off Dallas Keuchel to win Game 1. In Game 2, the Dodgers and Houston Astros hit a combined total of eight home runs, a new single-game World Series record.
Houston cruised to an “easy” win when they managed to scare off Yu Darvish in Game 3 after the pitcher lasted just 1.2 innings. The Dodgers win even the Fall Classic in Game 4, but Game 5 was a different story.
Game 5 lasted just over five hours, making it the second-longest World Series game in history by time. The Astros edged the Dodgers in a back-and-forth extra-inning marathon that finished 13-12.
The Dodgers managed to force a Game 7 back at Dodger Stadium, but couldn’t snap their title drought. Astros outfielder George Springer recorded his fifth home run in the Series. Houston would win their first title, which of course, eventually led to a controversial cheating scandal.
