Madden 2002

The 2001 Vikings were a dominant force. It’s probably why both Madden 2002 and NFL 2K2 decided to pose Vikings’ players as cover athletes. NFL 2K2 selected Randy Moss and Madden 2002 selected Daunte Culpepper.

There was no questions Culpepper-Moss was a deadly combination. Call a streak play against “Double Wide,” a defensive play that would double team both number one and two receiving options, and Moss would still get open. Culpepper had the strongest arm on that game and threw the deep ball beautifully and accurate.

While those two were a dangerous combination there was still Cris Carter and Jake Reed who comprised the iconic receiving core dubbed “Three Deep.” Byron Chamberlain at tight end with the speedy rookie Michael Bennett at running back, this was an offense to be reckon with. Fullback Jim Kleinsasser was one of the few fullbacks who could sneak a few catches out of the  backfield as a surprise option to move the chains.

While the defense wasn’t quite as dominant with safety Robert Smith as the only threat, that offense was enough of a dominant force.
