Washington Redskins Mount Rushmore: WR Charley Taylor

It certainly would be easy to put reliable wide receiver Art Monk on this list. He ranks 20th in NFL history in receptions (940) and was part of three Super Bowl championship teams with the club under head coach Joe Gibbs. His career were eventually take him to the New York Jets and Philadelphia Eagles but he remains the Redskins’ all-time leading receiver with 888 catches and 12,026 receiving yards.

But prior to his arrival in 1980, Washington had quite the talented offensive performer in Arizona State University’s Charley Taylor. He was the third overall pick in 1964 and was also a second-round selection by the AFL’s Houston Oilers that same year. The running back/turned wide receiver rolled up 1,569 yards from scrimmage and 10 touchdowns as a rookie, quite the number in a 14-game season. He was a Pro Bowler in each of his first four NFL campaigns, led the league in receptions in both 1966 and ’67 and earned All-Pro honors after that latter season.
