5 things Borussia Dortmund must do to catch Bayern Munich next year
Borussia Dortmund priority No. 3: Add another center-forward
At the moment, Erling Haaland is the only natural center-forward employed by the club. Whenever he misses time due to injury or fatigue, the club suffers without a natural striker to lead their line. That weakness must be addressed in the transfer market.
Any club with legitimate aspirations of winning the Bundesliga needs at least two number nines to rely upon. Thorgan Hazard and Julian Brandt are nice players, but neither possess the physical attributes required to lead the Dortmund line against top-quality opposition.
Admittedly, it will be costly and difficult to find a hitman willing to come to Dortmund with the knowledge that Haaland will get the lion’s share of games. The club will likely be forced to take a gamble on a young, relatively unproven striker willing to bet on his own talents.
It’s still a purchase Dortmund have to make this summer. Betting on Haaland to stay fully fit for a grueling Bundesliga campaign is a wish rather than a plan. To overtake Bayern the black and yellow have to acquire another solid striker.
