Borussia Dortmund priority No. 1: Clarify the futures of Jadon Sancho and Erling Haaland

Much of Dortmund’s success this season was powered by two of the brightest young attacking talents in Europe. Both Jadon Sancho and Ering Haaland have potential to become global superstars.

That reality certainly hasn’t escaped the richest clubs in Europe. Dortmund can expect to receive massive bids for both of their attacking starlets this summer. It’s entirely possible that the club could field an offer they simply cannot refuse.

The key isn’t that Dortmund hold on to Sancho and Haaland at all costs. The key is that they enter the 2020-21 season with a clear understanding of whether or not either will remain committed to the club for the full season. Dortmund cannot afford to enter another campaign with questions about the immediate future of either player.

In a perfect world, they’d love to keep both stars in black and yellow for at least one more season. If they are forced to sell one or both players, they must immediately reinvest the funds into the squad. Finding like-for-like replacements for players of that caliber will be impossible. Instead, Dortmund must turn the high quality duo into four or five above-average Bundesliga starters.

That’s a massive challenge for the club, but possessing immensely talented starlets comes with big challenges. Making sure Sancho and Haaland either stay or are replaced adequately should be the club’s top priority.
