Chris Godwin has more tackles than drops in NFL career

Chris Godwin is in line for a fantastic fantasy season, but he’s already on the right path.

When Tom Brady decided the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were the next team he’d involve in his legendary career, it was a seismic decision.

Not only did Brady single-handily take a franchise most NFL fans forgot existed and catapult it back to premier relevance, but he was the gift from the football gods for his new receiving corps.

Even with Jameis Winston throwing 30 of his passes to the wrong team last season, the Buccaneers receiving duo of Mike Evans and Chris Godwin were been among the league’s best pass catchers.

Specifically, Godwin has quietly developed into a star No. 2 wideout next to Evans, much in the same way Adam Thielen and Stefon Diggs were able to raise each other up in Minnesota. Unlike that duo, Evans and Godwin are still together, and the latter seems to be in for another breakout season with Brady.

Punctuating just how good Godwin could be in 2020 is just how little he drops the ball.

Godwin boasts an anemic 2.2 percent drop rate in his career, which is the best in the NFL dating back to 2015.

To put this insane stat into perspective, Godwin has more tackles in his career than he does drops. After being drafted out of Penn State back in 2017, Godwin has spent time on the Bucs special teams unit, where he’s amassed seven tackles in his career to his four total dropped passes.

Godwin hasn’t dropped a ball since October 2019, and with Brady coming to Tampa it seems as though the disparity between his production and his missed opportunities is only going to grow in the best way possible.
