Most important player for each NFL team in 2020
Dallas Cowboys: Joe Looney, C
Travis Frederick’s position to retire caught the Cowboys off-guard. It also thrust Looney into position to join the starting lineup.
The former Wake Forest star doesn’t need to play All-Pro football in 2020, but he does need to make sure that he doesn’t become the offense’s weak link. Emerging as anything more than an average starter would represent a big win for Dallas and Looney.
New York Giants: Andrew Thomas, OT
The Giants desperately need Thomas to grow up quickly enough to take over for Nate Solder at left tackle this season. Anything less would have to be considered a mild disappointment by the team’s front office.
At worst, Thomas should see the field early at the right tackle spot. Moving him from his collegiate position wouldn’t make much sense, but Dave Gettleman is certainly capable of making that type of call.
Philadelphia Eagles: Andre Dillard, OT
The Eagles spent a first-round pick on Dillard in 2019 because they knew Jason Peters was going to leave the franchise soon. 2020 represents the season where Dillard needs to step in as the team’s starting left tackle.
Protecting Carson Wentz has been a challenge for Philadelphia over the last several seasons. Dillard can’t afford to become part of that problem. He faces a ton of pressure heading into his sophomore campaign.
Washington Redskins: Chase Young, EDGE
The Redskins have too many offensive challenges to be overcome by any one, player. That’s why selecting a defensive star makes more sense. Young’s insanely high ceiling makes him an easy player for Washington fans to focus in on during what could be an ugly season.
Young doesn’t need to be dominant every week, he simply needs to flash the ability to take over games during his rookie campaign. As long as he does that, Redskins fans should remain enamored with his long-term prospects.
