Jason Campbell led Auburn football to an undefeated season.

When we think back to the undefeated SEC Championship team of 2004 under head coach Tommy Tuberville, we remember the dynamic running back duo of Ronnie Brown and Carnell “Cadillac” Williams first. Of course, there was also the dominant defensive back by the name of Carlos Rogers. So why don’t we give the starting quarterback Jason Campbell the love he deserves?

In four years at Auburn, Campbell had a different offensive coordinator every year. If that happens at the professional level, even the most astute signal-callers struggle with that much constant change. For Campbell, he seemed to thrive in it while at Auburn. He left school with a 64.6 career completion percentage, throwing for 7,299 yards, 45 touchdowns and 24 interceptions.

Though he never threw for 3,000 yards in a season, Campbell’s 2004 campaign was definitely his best as a collegiate. He completed 69.6 percent of his passes for 2,700 yards, 20 touchdowns, seven interceptions and never lost a game. Campbell was named SEC Offensive Player of the Year and earned Sugar Bowl MVP honors in his final college game.

He then went on to be the No. 25 overall pick in the 2005 NFL Draft by the Washington Redskins where he spent the first five of his 10 NFL seasons. After Washington, Campbell had a two-year run with the Oakland Raiders, followed by a season apiece with the Chicago Bears, the Cleveland Browns and the Cincinnati Bengals. Over a decade later, Campbell remains one of the best.
