5 teams who should sign Colin Kaepernick right now
1. The Minnesota Vikings could make a strong statement by signing Colin Kaepernick
The spark for all the unrest currently in America — including protests and important discussions about eliminating systemic racism — came as a result of the horrific killing of George Floyd by a Minneapolis police officer.
The Vikings have done a great job helping to contribute to change as the Wilf family has donated $5 million to social justice causes, but they could further solidify the team’s moral compass by being the team to sign Colin Kaepernick.
The very act that Kaepernick peacefully protested about years ago has brought about talk of real change in this country, with Minnesota at the epicenter of it. Kaepernick has done a good job of trying to advocate for an end to police brutality and the Vikings could give him the perfect platform to continue this noble work.
There is also sound football logic behind the move since the Vikings need a backup quarterback in the worst way. Sean Mannion, Nate Stanley and Jake Browning are currently Minnesota’s backups, which could lead to a disaster if Kirk Cousins gets hurt.
Even with a three-year layoff, Kaepernick would be a far better option than any of those players. Add in the powerful message that signing Kaepernick would send to the country and it is a no-brainer for the Vikings to be the team to bring him back into the NFL family.
