1. Jessie Bates

The Bengals offense looks primed to score a lot of points in 2020, but it’s also possible that their defense can take a big step forward. If they do, Bates is a player who will be contending for a spot in the Pro Bowl.

He’s tailor-made to thrive at free safety against offenses that want to stretch the field with their vertical routes. Bates has the size to hit receivers over the middle, but his athleticism and link make it a better choice for him to hunt for interceptions.

If the Bengals can find a way to generate more pass rush in 2020 it will give Bates more chances to do what he does best. He can be stellar when he’s given the chance to roam the deep third and make plays on the football.

Safety isn’t the most valuable position in the modern NFL, but every secondary wants to be full of guys who can cover. Bates’ ability to match-up with anyone from tight end to wide receiver makes him a valuable weapon for Cincinnati.
