Tottenham question No. 3: Can Serge Aurier be trusted?

Aurier is easily the most talented pure right back on Tottenham’s current roster. In a perfect world, Spurs could comfortably pencil him as their starter at the position for the next several years.

Unfortunately, his lack of consistency and questionable decision-making on and off the pitch make that a gamble the club cannot afford to make. At best, he can play solid football for the next nine games and convince Spurs not buy a direct replacement in the summer.

A series of relatively quiet performances might be just what Tottenham want to see from Aurier. He just needs to avoid the big mistake that costs his club points upon occasion. Refraining from making rash challenges in the box would be a good place for the former PSG man to start.

In some ways, his attitude in training might be more important than what he shows the world in actual matches. He needs to build a bond with Mourinho that allows the manager to place a good deal of faith in him. It may be impossible for him to achieve that lofty goal in the next mine matches. Nonethless, it’s Aurier’s challenge moving forward.
