5 reasons the Cowboys will win the NFC East
3. The Cowboys have dynamic linebackers
The Cowboys have some defensive question marks heading into 2020, but none of them resides at the linebacker position. Dallas could form one of the best linebacking trios in football this season if they can stay healthy.
Jaylon Smith is one of the best middle linebackers in the game. He isn’t content to just fill the middle against the run. Instead, he uses his athleticism to make big plays from a position that doesn’t typically produce many. The rest of the league is still trying to catch up on just how dynamic he’s become.
Leighton Vander Esch gives Dallas similar production from his spot on the outside. He gets a little more freedom than Smith does on most snaps and he makes the most of his opportunities. Whatever he lacks in sheer size and strength he more than makes up for in speed and quickness.
Sean Lee will be the weak link in the group assuming he wins the other outside job, but he’s still one of the smartest linebackers in the league. That allows him to do a great job of covering up any mistakes his younger teammates make. The strength of Dallas’ defense in 2020 will definitely be at linebacker.
