3. Los Angeles Chargers

Chargers head coach Anthony Lynn has said Kaepernick fits the style of quarterback he’s looking for, and the door is open for the team to get him in for a workout.

“I haven’t talked to him,” Lynn said, via Joe Reedy of the Associated Press. “He fits the style of quarterback that we want. We’re happy with the three quarterbacks that we want but you can’t have enough on the runway.”

The Chargers moved on from long-time quarterback Philip Rivers this offseason. Tyrod Taylor has been anointed as the starter, and rookie Justin Herbert has been tabbed as the quarterback of the future. Both could start games this year though, depending on how the season goes in the win-loss columns.

Kaepernick would surely have a great off the field impact for the Chargers, drawing attention and pushing jersey sales as they try to gain a foothold with the Los Angeles fanbase. But there are good football reasons to sign him, as a possible upgrade over/more direct competition for Taylor along with the mobility Lynn openly favors under center. If there’s a favorite to sign Kaepernick, speaking on June 22, the Chargers have emerged as it.
