5 NFL teams Trey Lance could star on in 2021
New England Patriots
Despite not replacing Tom Brady, the likelihood is that Bill Belichick and the Patriots are not trying to actively tank with an eye on one of the draft’s top quarterbacks.
The hope in New England is obviously that the Patriots’ fourth-round pick of last year, Jarrett Stidham, proves a worthy heir to Brady.
But the brief time Stidham spent on the field last year provided an indication that things could well go the other way with him under center.
Should the Patriots struggle in 2020 then they would be doing so at the right time to land the kind of dual-threat talent at quarterback that Belichick would surely relish working with.
Lawrence, Fields and Lance are all of that mold. Belichick would have new aveneus with which to exploit opposing defenses with Lance’s vision, elusiveness and power as a runner.
The poise Lance demonstrated in his interception-less first season as a starter for North Dakota State would also appeal significantly to Belichick, who most believe wants to leave the Patriots in good shape for the future before ending his incredible coaching career.
If the gamble on Stidham does not pay off, Lance should be a target for the Patriots to help them right the ship in 2021 and achieve Belichick’s long-term aim.
