5 NFL players who will fall off a cliff in 2020 season
By John Buhler
If the Seattle Seahawks think they are getting the Greg Olsen of old from the Carolina Panthers, they are mistaken. Health issues have caused Olsen to miss 18 games in the last three seasons. Though asking a 35-year-old tight end to approach 1,000 receiving yards is pushing it, but he hasn’t hit 600 in a season since 2016 in Carolina.
If Olsen does experience a career renaissance in the Pacific Northwest, much of that will have to do with the play of his new star quarterback Russell Wilson. Sadly, it would also be an indictment on Cam Newton’s long-term viability as a starting quarterback in this league. Newton hasn’t been the same player since Super Bowl 50. Olsen hasn’t been a great player since 2016.
Will Olsen be a step up from Jimmy Graham for Wilson? Well, let’s hope so, as Graham revealed himself as strictly a product of Sean Payton’s offensive system since he left the New Orleans Saints. However, one more injury might mean the end for Olsen’s career as a player and force him into the FOX broadcasting booth full time. It’s established; that’s his next career path, by the way.
Even though we’d love to see Olsen push ever closer to a gold jacket, it’s going to be so weird seeing him in a Seahawks jersey. Let’s hope it doesn’t go like Jerry Rice in a Seahawks jersey. Nobody was a fan of that, not even the greatest wide receiver the sport of football has ever seen. So, so much can go wrong for Olsen in his first season in Seattle. It might be the last of his career.
