1. Derrick Henry is still the offensive focus

With all due respect to Tannehill, he’s not going to be the first player opposing defensive coordinators concern themselves with in 2020. That honor still goes to Derrick Henry. The Titans will continue to be one of the most physical rushing attacks in the NFL as long as he remains in Tennessee.

That lowers the workload on Tannehill a great deal. Most of his throws will come against defensive fronts keying against Henry and the run game. Executing passes against single coverage and/or out of play-action make the game a lot easier for Tannehill.

The only knock against Henry is that he’s not a great receiver out of the backfield. There’s some truth to that line of criticism, but Tennessee’s scheme does a good job of covering up that deficiency. Instead of asking him to run patterns out of the backfield, they use him on run fakes to occupy defenders in that manner.

Even if Henry never catches a pass, his ability to run through opposing defenders makes him a nightmare for opposing coaches. As long as he stays healthy and productive then Tannehill has a relatively easy path towards NFL success. That’s the biggest reason why he can pilot Tennessee back into the playoffs in 2020.
