Dallas Cowboys: Dak Prescott

Prescott will face serious competition from Ezekiel Elliott, but he’s still the main man for the Cowboys offense. Throwing to guys like Amari Cooper, Michael Gallup and Jerry Jeudy should make his job even easier in 2020.

To win the award, Prescott likely needs to pilot his team to 12 wins and flirt with 5,000 yards passing. Elliott’s presence in the backfield might make hitting that yardage total difficult, but it’s not impossible for the talented signal-caller.

New York Giants: Saquon Barkley

The Giants desperately want Daniel Jones to take a step forward next season, but Barkley is still the team’s most important offensive player by a wide margin. His ability to impact the run and pass game from the backfield gives New York’s offense much-needed juice on every snap.

If Barkley stays healthy he’s going to put up numbers. The question is whether or not he can drag the Giants to double-digit wins. That’s a requirement if he wants to be the league’s MVP.

Philadelphia Eagles: Carson Wentz

Wentz quietly enjoyed a healthy 2019 campaign but he still wasn’t good enough to get the Eagles back into the postseason. Philadelphia needs him to play at an elite level in 2020 if they want to win the division.

Wentz’s ability to win individual accolades is negatively impacted by his lack of weapons. If he puts up huge numbers it’s going to be a clear reflection of his greatness. That gives him a shot to achieve significant notoriety.

Washington Redskins: Terry McLaurin

McLaurin showed Redskins fans glimpses of what he could do in 2019. The hope is that he and Dwayne Haskins can develop an important bond this season.

If that happens, McLaurin should be in line to get a ton of targets. He’ll make big plays if that happens, but he may struggle to make enough ordinary plays to really merit serious consideration. It’s also very unlikely that Washington will win enough games to strengthen his credentials.
