So we have arrived at the a trio of teams whose Super Bowl window is right now. If the Kansas City Chiefs don’t repeat and one of the other recent winners like the Philadelphia Eagles or the Seattle Seahawks don’t get it done, look to last year’s NFC Champion San Francisco 49ers to win their first Lombardi Trophy since Steve Young destroyed the San Diego Super Chargers.

There is so much to love about Kyle Shanahan’s team. He has tremendous support from his coaching staff and from the front office. Defensive coordinator Robert Saleh will be an NFL head coach within the next year or so, as that’s totally happening. Maybe John Lynch winning a Super Bowl as a general manager gets him that bronze bust he deserves in Canton as a player?

The 49ers are elite at three things: Getting after the quarterback, running the football and being tight end George Kittle‘s employer. If quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo continues to improve as a passer, the 49ers offense should be able to offset a near-certain regression on the defensive side of the ball in 2020. If the 49ers are top-10 on both sides of the ball, they can win it all in 2020.

Repeating in the NFC West will be hard, as the Seahawks are always tough, the Arizona Cardinals look to be on the come up and the Los Angeles Rams are the 49ers’ most historic rival. Though the Super Bowl hangover could set in, the 49ers’ window to hoist a Lombardi Trophy is still very much open for the next two-to-three years. Perhaps they have what it takes to get it done by 2022?
