5 reasons Bears should move on from Mitch Trubisky after 2020
By Gino Terrell
1. Trubisky won’t live up to expectations
Trubisky was doomed from the start. The moment he was drafted by the Bears No. 2 overall he faced unreasonably high expectations. It wasn’t only those expectations, but also who the Bears passed up on to draft him.
The Bears missed an opportunity to draft Patrick Mahomes, who was taken 10th-overall. He went on to win MVP in 2018 throwing 50 touchdowns and for 5,097 yards. A year later, Mahomes won his first Super Bowl and become the game’s MVP.
At 12th-overall, Deshaun Watson was taken off the board by the Houston Texans. Watson came into the draft fresh off consecutive Heisman finalist seasons, with his final year having Clemson win the National Championship. Since then, he’s been a rising star in the NFL and has made the Pro Bowl in back-to-back seasons.
What seemed like a head-scratching pick at the time has only blown up in the face of Chicago fans. As long as he is in a Bears uniform, he will always be compared to the two stars, Mahomes and Watson.
Both the Bears and Trubisky need a fresh start post 2020 and the only way is for the two sides to part ways.
