4. A Top Defense Once Again

Things went so bad last season, that there are actually conversations that the Chicago Bears could consider trading Khalil Mack at some point. They sent a King’s ransom to the Oakland Raiders to bring him in to revamp the defense, which he did. After one season where he wasn’t one of the best in the league, the Bears may look to see what they can get for him.

Mack had a nagging injury last season, and it impacted his sack numbers. If we see a healthy Mack this season, we expect to see the same dominant force we saw in 2018. He just turned 29, so he has plenty of years as a dominant force left in him.

The rest of the defense will follow Mack’s lead. The Bears also added Robert Quinn, Tashaun Gipson, Artie Burns, and took a flier on Barkevious Mingo. That’s a lot of talent to bring in one offseason on a unit that’s already killing it. On top of all that, the Bears bring back a very good linebacking core and overall front seven.

This team is destined to get back in the conversation for one of the best defenses in the NFL. They have the right talent and a second year from defensive coordinator Chuck Pagano. Even with a drop in production from last season, they were still ranked fourth in points against. With an offense that’s not asking them to win most games, the defense can focus on making plays. We expect the turnovers to go back up with more rest in between drives.
