Each NFL team’s most overrated player
By Matt Conner
Baltimore Ravens
Tyus Bowser – The Ravens took Bowser in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft, which means a contract year in blooming in 2020.
To date, however, Bowser has shown very little in the way of production as a pass rusher despite the heavy investment. Yet the Ravens tend to see new players step up each year and fill the stat sheet with sacks aplenty before leaving in free agency. Bowser might be next, but it feels like a longshot at this point with an average under 3 sacks per season.
Buffalo Bills
Josh Norman – Overrated players are often able to coast on their reputations for a limited time in the NFL and Josh Norman looks like one of those players.
While the Bills hope they can help the veteran rebound on the field, the reality is that Norman was never the lockdown difference-maker in the secondary that he was projected to be. Washington found out the hard way.
Carolina Panthers
Curtis Samuel – In 2017, the Panthers turned in their card with Curtis Samuel’s name in the second round hoping to give Cam Newton a dynamic new weapon in the passing game. Three full seasons later, and Samuel has struggled to produce with any reliability.
Last year, he set a career high with 627 receiving yards, but he was also gifted 105 targets in the process. Better quarterback play will help here, but Teddy Bridgewater has to hope Samuel can grow with him.
