6. DH. Pick Analysis. 3B. Alec Bohm. 2. player. Scouting Report

Phillies fans have long-awaited the major league debut of Alec Bohm. A third overall draft pick in 2018, Bohm has quickly skyrocketed through the team’s farm system. He hit .305 with 21 home runs and 80 RBI over 475 at-bats in the minor leagues last season. He went on to notch a .361 average in the Arizona Fall League for the Scottsdale Scorpions and a .409 average in 13 spring training games this year.

Bohm has yet to hit the Triple-A rank, but with the uncertainty of there being any kind of a minor league season in 2020, Bohm might be a beneficiary of this and jump right into the majors.

As with any prized top prospect, teams are cautious and patient in every step of the player’s development. This will be no different with the Phillies’ handling of Bohm. But the former Wichita State infielder seems more than ready to take on the best that the NL East has to offer. He is a durable power hitter with tremendous extension on his swing. Plate discipline will be key for his tenure in Philly, which the team desperately need of considering their array of high strikeout hitters in the lineup.

With Bohm’s inevitable call up this year, he will not be restricted to soley playing as the designated hitter. He is a versatile infielder, which bodes well with how Girardi likes to mix his lineup up every now and then.

Bohm is filled with potential and may be a candidate for the NL Rookie of the Year if he can accumulate just enough plate appearances to make an impact.
