UCLA basketball: 5 questions the UCLA Bruins must answer in 2020
No. 1 Is Johnny Juzang going to thrive with the Bruins in 2020?
Juzang is back home. He has ties to the west coast via Harvard-Westlake High School where he shined as a consensus five-star prospect on all of the major recruiting services. He reclassified to be a part of the 2019 recruiting class and led his team in winning the CIF and Mission League Championships as a junior. He averaged 23 points, nine rebounds and three assists in addition to earning Mission League MVP and All-CIF First Team honors.
While he was a part of the Kentucky Wildcats for his lone season last year, he played in all 28 games. While his numbers don’t jump out at anyone, on film, he shows a lot of promise. He’s a guy who can catch and shoot from the perimeter with ease, take the ball to the basket himself and score or convert on the fast break. Another thing to love about his game is his ability to follow through on missed shots. For a player at any position, that’s a game-changer.
He has an amazing opportunity to fill the void left in Chris Smith’s departure at shooting guard and make a name for himself coming back home to play in front of family and friends at UCLA Pauley Pavilion. His transfer to UCLA will work out for both parties. Campbell and Juzang could be an exciting backcourt to watch in the Pac-12 next season and Juzang has something to prove. UCLA is going to get the best out of him.
