Chase Young – Washington Redskins

The Washington Redskins may be hoping for Young to have the same transformative impact his fellow former Buckeye Nick Bosa had for the San Francisco 49ers last season.

It is unrealistic to expect such a drastic turnaround under Ron Rivera in 2020. Indeed, this is a Redskins team with far more questions than answers and the road back to prominence will be a long one.

Still, Young can be an immediate bright spot for Washington as a rookie.

Young was unquestionably the best player in the 2020 draft, the defensive end coming off a dominant final year at Ohio State that saw him rack up 16.5 sacks, 21 tackles for loss and seven forced fumbles.

His tremendous burst off the edge and remarkable power are likely to instantly translate to the NFL level and, while Young’s game still needs some refinement, the talent the Redskins already have on the defensive line should help negate any growing pains he may suffer.

The Redskins have four further first-rounders on the D-Line in Ryan Kerrigan, Jonathan Allen, Da’Ron Payne and Montez Sweat, who quietly had seven sacks in a decent rookie year in 2019.

Former fifth-round pick Matt Ioannidis, who has 20.5 sacks in the last three seasons, provides further quality depth.

With the strength the Redskins have on the defensive side of the trenches, Young should see plenty of one-on-one matchups of which he can take advantage. If he capitalizes on them in the same way he did in college, Young will soon join Bosa as one of the league’s rising young defensive stars.
