5. Justin Fields committed to Penn State before enrolling at Georgia.

Before the Ohio State Buckeyes, Fields was a member of the Georgia Bulldogs. But the Bulldogs were not his first choice. Fields originally committed to the Penn State Nittany Lions. They were one of the first schools to go after him, offering him a scholarship following his sophomore season. But following his junior year, Fields decommitted and announced his commitment to the Georgia Bulldogs.

So what happened?

Well at the time, Penn State had one of the best offensive coordinators in the nation in Joe Moorhead, who was also one of the names being tossed around for almost every opening head coaching job in the country, which led to Fields and his mother wondering if this would still be a good fit in a long term sense. They were right as Moorhead left for Mississippi State in 2018, Fields freshman year.

And after his performance in his junior year of high school, Fields started to receive even more offers from Power Five school, which ultimately led him to stay in-state and play for the Georgia Bulldogs before transferring to Ohio State after one year.
