1. Can the Huskers get back to a bowl game?

At the end of the day, the biggest question that hangs over Nebraska football this season is a simple one: How good is this team? For the sake of Frost’s longevity — and for the sake of general sanity in Lincoln among fans — the baseline for that should be the Cornhuskers aiming to get at least six wins and into a bowl game.

Looking at the schedule, it’s not the most difficult thing in the world but it’s also one that could have some hiccups along the way. A non-conference meeting with Cincinnati, one of the best Group of 5 teams this season, in Lincoln could prove pivotal. In terms of other tough games, trips to Ohio State and Wisconsin will be difficult, the same of which is true for Penn State and Minnesota at home.

As far as expected wins go, though, Nebraska should be thinking that they’ll win at home against Purdue, Central Michigan and South Dakota State to start the season while winning at Northwestern and vs. Illinois as well and at Rutgers. For those counting at home, that’s the six wins they need right there to get into a bowl game.

Subsequently, the question then becomes just how high can the Huskers fly. Can they win at Iowa in a year of uncertainty for the Hawkeyes? Could they knock off Cincinnati and flex some Power 5 muscle? Is there an upset in the cards against a team like Wisconsin, who may not be as good as they have been? That all depends on what Frost can draw out of this team but the potential to have an eight- or nine-win season is there.
