Oregon football: 5 questions the Oregon Ducks must answer in 2020
4. Oregon football questions: How does the secondary come together?
While there are plenty of good college football teams with questions in the secondary that are wondering who is going to fill holes or step up in larger roles, the Ducks are not in that position. Instead, Oregon finds themselves in a spot where they might have too many players for too few places at the top of the depth chart.
That’s not a bad problem to have for any team, having talented players who could see the field for most programs. Having said that, it does put Cristobal and the defense in a position where they need to find the right combination of players on the field for them to reach their peak potential as a unit. That will be an interesting thing to see develop as we go into the year.
Mykael Wright is really the player in a position to crash the party in the secondary. He showed out late in the year, which might earn him a starting cornerback job. That could push Thomas Graham Jr. to the nickel, which then puts versatile safety Jevon Holland into a position where he’s not being moved around quite as much. And these guys all join another veteran player in corner Deommodore Lenoir.
All in all, the Ducks should be completely fine on the back end of the defense. This is a group littered with NFL-caliber talent that should be able to find the right combination. What we don’t know, especially after a shortened spring, is what that combo looks like exactly.
