NFC East

Dallas Cowboys: CB Bryant Westbrook

Most of the Cowboys’ bad decisions in the 2000s came with trades, but Westbrook was a notable miss in free agency.

After spending the first five years of his career in Detroit, Westbrook signed a one-year deal with the Cowboys and was named a starter after a strong training camp. Westbrook played one of the worst games of his life in the 2002 season opener, getting torched by the expansion Texans and committing several big penalties which led the Cowboys to cut him after that game.

New York Giants: LB Lavar Arrington

Some people may forget that Arrington was one of the best linebackers in football in the early 2000s.

The Giants signed him to a seven-year, $49 million deal in 2006 to be the new face of their defense. The Arrington era lasted just six games after he ruptured his Achilles tendon and was cut following the season.

Philadelphia Eagles: CB Nnamdi Asomugha

DeMarco Murray deserves a dishonorable mention but Asomugha was especially brutal for the Eagles. Regarded as one of the best corners in football, Asomugha seemed like a huge get for Philadelphia, which signed him to a five-year, $60 million deal.

Asomugha immediately regressed and was cut after just two seasons as a member of the Eagles.

Washington Redskins: DT Albert Haynesworth

This one might be one of the worst free-agent signings in NFL history, not just Redskins’ history. Washington gave Haynesworth $100 million over seven years only to watch him show up out of shape to his first training camp.

To make matters worse, Haynesworth feuded frequently with the coaching staff, getting himself shipped out of Washington after just two seasons for a fifth-round pick.
