An AFC East coach doesn’t think Cam Newton will start Week 1: Let’s investigate who that coach is
By John Buhler
Let’s be real, Cam Newton will start Week 1 for the New England Patriots.
So did we really get anywhere with this exercise? I did call it an AFC East witch hunt for a reason. We’re letting the Patriots live rent-free in our heads as they have for decades in the minds of Bills, Dolphins and Jets fans. It’s kind of sad really, but this is reality. We should be happy Newton found a new team, that he’s healthy and that he’s excited about getting to work and starting in Week 1.
If you want to go down the Cam Newton hater wormhole and find yourself tin-foil-hatting it with Sean McDermott, you can totally do that and be judged for it accordingly. Buffalo seems to busy trying to win more than 10 games so the team can host a home playoff game for the legions of Bills Mafia. No folding table is safe in Western New York during the postseason, or ever really.
If you want to pile on Adam Gase for being himself, you can do that, too. New York has the most variance of any team in the division this year. The Jets can win upwards of 10 games, but could totally bottom out. Though it’s hard to be Jeff Fisher 7-9 B.S. in back-to-back season, Gang Green has the culture to pull that level of mediocrity off. So it could be him, but we’re not absolutely sure.
And then there’s Brian Flores. Yes, he used to work for the Patriots. Though he wasn’t in the building when Jarrett Stidham was drafted, he knows how the Patriots think because he used to be one. And if you take a gander at who the Patriots are playing Week 1 up in Foxborough, that certainly has to make you wonder? Take the Patriots to win and cover vs. the visiting Dolphins.
