Scouting Report. Lewis Central High School (Council Bluffs, IA). player. Pick Analysis. TE. Thomas Fidone. 3. 811

Michigan football has a great shot at landing one of the best tight ends in the country in the 2021 recruiting class. Though it won’t be easy, the Wolverines are one of four Power 5 teams Thomas Fidone is seriously looking at going to school and play his college ball at. The other three are the Iowa Hawkeyes, the LSU Tigers and the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Does Michigan have a shot?

Fidone is 6-foot-5 and 225 pounds. The Lewis Central High School standout in Council Bluffs, Iowa is the No. 1 player from Iowa, the No. 2 tight end in the country and the No. 91 player in this class, according to the 247Sports Composite. Michigan tight ends coach and top recruiter Sherrone Moore is Fidone’s lead recruiter to the Wolverines. That gives them a really good chance at him.

In most years, one would think a kid from Iowa would want to go play for Kirk Ferentz in Iowa City. However, the Iowa football program has been in hot water with the termination surrounding former strength and conditioning coach Chris Doyle. He had been with Ferentz from day one at Iowa. Now one may question if Ferentz may just retire after the 2020 college football season.

LSU is an interesting landing spot, as the Bayou Bengals have had success at the tight end position recently. There’s also the possibility Fidone would go play for Scott Frost over in Lincoln for the Cornhuskers. What gives Michigan its best fighting chance to get him is Iowa’s perceived instability, LSU’s distance from Council Bluffs and the Wolverines’ chances to win big in the 2020s.
