124. Chris Jones. 1. DT. Kansas City Chiefs. player. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis

If you asked me a couple of months ago if I thought the Chiefs would let stud defensive tackle Chris Jones walk to the open market, I’d call you crazy. But based on recent updates, that appears to be on the table in 2021.

Ever since he was drafted in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft by the Chiefs, he propelled himself into the top-tier of NFL defensive tackles, right next to Aaron Donald of the Los Angeles Rams. Jones has shown that he’s a brick wall against the run and he can rush the quarterback. Most defensive tackles are one-trick ponies, but not Jones.

In his four years with the Chiefs, Jones tallied 136 total tackles (37 for loss), 72 quarterback hits, 33 sacks, seven forced fumbles and two interceptions. Those numbers are just insane.

Unfortunately for the Chiefs, retaining him is nearly impossible. After being tagged with the franchise tender, Jones expressed his desire to earn $20 million a season, a request that has caused negotiations to stall. In fact, Jones tweeted that he’d take a page out of New York Jets running back Le’Veon Bell’s playbook and sit out for the entirety of the upcoming season.

We’d recommend giving a player of Jones’ caliber whatever he wants. But given these latest circumstances, Jones is very likely to earn the deal he so desires from another team.
