3 salary cap casualties for the Browns after the 2020 season
Jarvis Landry is an interesting player on the Browns roster. The wide receiver is also a Dorsey addition who may not be in the future plans of the organization beyond 2020.
Landry was traded to the Browns in 2018 and proceeded to sign a brand new five-year, $75.5 million contract. He finished with well over 1,000 yards in 2019, but his name still popped up in trade rumors at times.
This will once again be the case following the 2020 season, regardless of his production. If a trade partner can’t be found, a release is also possible. Cutting Landry before the 2021 season saves the Browns $11.8 million and clears his final two years off the books. But why would the Browns cut a top receiver?
Odell Beckham is under contract through 2023, and fans may point out he has a dead cap value of $0 from 2021-23. Yet in terms of overall talent, he appears to be the better receiver. If the Browns have to pick just one to keep, Landry may be the odd man out and can even bring back value in return via a trade.
