6. player. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. . New York Jets. Adam Gase. 30

Gase is the first coach on this list who should be very concerned about his job security. If he doesn’t lead the Jets to playoff contention in 2020 then he’ll be looking for a job heading into the 2021 campaign.

The team’s final 7-9 record in 2019 wasn’t terrible. The offensive production, however, was embarrassingly poor. The Jets attack finished next to last in the NFL with a scoring average of just 17.3 points per game.

The hope is that Sam Darnold can make 2020 the season he breaks out and becomes one of the best quarterbacks in football. The former USC star has the talent to take a big step forward, but the Jets might not have the surrounding talent to allow him to develop. There’s a lot of pressure on Mekhi Becton to solidify the offensive line and Denzel Mims to operate as a No. 1 wide receiver. Betting heavily on rookies like that is a recipe for disaster.

Gase might not need to get the Jets back into the playoffs to save his job, but falling out of contention early is going to earn him a pink slip. He needs to show significant progress with Darnold early in the season if he wants to finish the year as the Jets’ head coach.
