These guys are flyers you take as your RB4. Target upside this late in the draft and don’t be afraid to drop the flyers that don’t pan out a few weeks into the season. With the potential of starters missing time due to illness, late round running backs can be worth a stash.

RB. player. 59. Pick Analysis. Miami Dolphins. Jordan Howard. 38. Scouting Report

Rushing: 176 carries, 739 rushing yds, 7 rushing TDs

Receiving: 25 targets, 18 receptions, 135 receiving yds, 0 receiving TDs

Scoring: 147.4 PPR points, Half-PPR rank 37, standard rank 34

Howard is too good to keep off the field, but he’s not good enough to carry an offense. He’ll get a few touchdowns, but not many receptions and not enough carries to warrant a start in fantasy lineups. He’s Sony Michel lite. There’s no upside in drafting Jordan Howard, and I certainly won’t be doing it in any league.

Scouting Report. RB. Baltimore Ravens. J.K. Dobbins. 39. player. 26. Pick Analysis

Rushing: 121 carries, 609 rushing yds, 4 rushing TDs

Receiving: 33 targets, 27 receptions, 216 receiving yds, 1 receiving TD

Scoring: 137.5 PPR points, Half-PPR rank 39, standard rank 39

While it’s by no means guaranteed or even probable to happen, J.K. Dobbins has the potential to take Mark Ingram’s job by the end of 2020. Dobbins is meant to be the running back of the future for the Ravens, and is talented enough to take control of the backfield. He should be the starter next year, but as for this year, he’s worth a shot to see if he gets carries out the gate in the first few weeks. If not, the waiver wire should have someone better and you can keep an eye on him. If so, you have RB2 upside by mid season.

player. 42. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. RB. Tevin Coleman. San Francisco 49ers. 40

Rushing: 135 carries, 554 rushing yds, 5 rushing TDs

Receiving: 39 targets, 27 receptions, 232 receiving yds, 1 receiving TD

Scoring: 139.8 PPR points, Half-PPR rank 40, standard rank 38

Raheem Mostert has little job security headed into the season. Coleman did great for his stretch as the starter last year early in the season, and he has the potential for another streak like that in 2020. Head Coach Kyle Shanahan is known for riding the hot hand and feeding one back carries, so Coleman has a good chance of being an RB2 for a few weeks this season.

Other players to consider in this range: Latavius Murray, Alexander Mattison, Duke Johnson Jr., Marlon Mack

That’s it for my top 40 running backs headed into the fantasy season!
