26. Pick Analysis. RB. 1. player. Scouting Report. Baltimore Ravens. Gus Edwards

Gus Edwards is the latest upcoming free agent who’s, unfortunately, a running back. The overwhelming consensus in today’s NFL is that teams will not give a rusher a contract unless they’re a once in a generation player (i.e. Christian McCaffrey, Ezekiel Elliott).

Despite that notion, Edwards is a solid running back for the Ravens. In his rookie season, Edwards emerged from the bench and accumulated 718 yards and two touchdowns on 137 carries. This past year, the running back accumulated 711 yards and two scores on 133 carries. Those are nearly identical stat-lines, showing that Edwards is a consistent player in Baltimore’s potent running attack. This is a guy who averaged 5.3 yards per carry in his short career!

However, things aren’t looking too well for Edwards in terms of long-term stability. He lost starts to veteran Mark Ingram, who signed with the Ravens last offseason, and saw the team select Ohio State’s JK Dobbins in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft.

It seems apparent that the Ravens will move on from Edwards, but he should be able to command a decent chunk of cash as a free agent in 2021.
