Michigan State basketball recruiting efforts should be focused on this trio.
Michigan State could be making a big move in the college basketball world over the next few years. The commitment of Emoni Bates, 2022’s top-ranked player, sent shock waves through the college hoops world.
There is a chance Bates could reclassify to play for Michigan State as soon as 2021, where he would join Max Christie, the Spartans’ top recruit in the 2021 class. Let’s take a look at three more recruits that could join Michigan State’s class, beginning with one of the top recruits in the state.
3. Michigan State basketball recruiting targets: Kobe Bufkin, SG
A 6-foot-4 shooting guard from Grand Rapids, MI, Bufkin would classify as a hometown recruit for the Spartans. Head coach Tom Izzo has had a lot of success landing in-state recruits and getting the four-star guard would be a big success.
A lefty shooter, Bufkin would give Michigan State incredible depth at the two-guard spot. Christie would start ahead of him as a freshman but could go pro after one season, leaving Bufkin the job as a sophomore.
He is the No. 78 overall recruit, No. 15 shooting guard and the No. 3 recruit in Michigan, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.
The other team with a good shot at landing Bufkin is Michigan, which can offer a more immediate path to playing time than Michigan State at the moment. Don’t rule out the Spartans here but it wouldn’t be surprising to see Bufkin land in Ann Arbor.
